Watch: Brooklyn Castle

A Brooklyn public school and the National Chess Championship probably doesn’t jump out at you as an enthralling documentary, but Brooklyn Castle is worth a watch.

We caught it on POV which shows different documentary films with a point of view. This one focuses on I.S. 318 in Brooklyn that has won more than 30 national chess championships – more than any other school in the country. In 2012, they won the U.S. High School National Championship. A first for a junior high school.

The film focuses on five of the chess team players and shows how they work on their chess game, their schoolwork and deal with their family and school’s financial struggles. It’s amazing hearing what these kids dream about and watching them be proactive to make their dreams a reality.

The film is available on the POV website until next Wednesday, November 6. Watch it – you won’t be disappointed!
