National Dress Up Your Pet Day – Jan. 14th

You may or may not know that I have the best dog in the world. It’s true. His name is Louie and he’s the best and funniest Frenchie and furbaby ever.

We all think of our pets as family (and probably put them on pedestals when they’re not chewing on furniture or leaving surprises for you around the house), so with tomorrow January 14th being National Dress Up Your Pet Day, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the furball or scaly pal (we don’t discriminate!) in your life. Established in 2009 by animal behaviorist Colleen Paige, Dress Up Your Pet Day is a “fun way to celebrate your pet and support the pet fashion community.”

Some animal organizations around the country have already started celebrating the holiday. Like the SPCA in Philadelphia who teamed up with the Photo Pooch app where you snap a picture of your dog, dress them up virtually and then submit the picture for a chance to win prizes for your pet. Proceeds from purchasing the app benefit the PSPCA.

Make sure whatever you dress your pet in is season-appropriate and won’t harm or scare your furry friend. Here is some inspiration if you need it.

Use the hashtag #dressyourpet on Instagram to share all the cuteness!

Awesome ways to celebrate Friday the 13th

So it’s Friday the 13th, and unless you have paraskevidekatriaphobia, or fear of Friday the 13th, it’s just any other Friday, right? See how you can make the most of this weirdo of a day!

Wonder who is crazy enough to board flight 666 to HEL today.

Watch the entire Friday the 13th collection. Obvi.

Shop online, because apparently a lot of people are weary about doing business or traveling today, which causes the U.S. to lose $800-900 million on Friday the 13th.

Make a baker’s dozen of something delicious.

Listen to these songs that talk about Friday the 13th. Or do the opposite and listen to this “lucky” playlist on Spotify:

Test your luck and see if today is your lucky day by buying a lottery ticket.

Have a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal (or just the marshmallow charms). You know, just for good measure.

And don’t worry if you can’t get to all these today. Start planning for the next Friday the 13th: December 13, 2013!

Party like an ewok on May the Fourth

It’s awesome to celebrate obscure holidays. And Star Wars Day or May the Fourth is already upon us! Here’s a few fun ways you can celebrate tomorrow (and maybe even after)…

maythefourth

1. Have a Star Wars movie marathon complete with Star Wars themed food, like:

2. Make Lightsaber Straws for sipping your adult beverages…

3. And then play the Star Wars Drinking Game

4. Try to talk like Yoda all day to annoy your friends

5. Play Star Wars themed games like these

And then, if you still haven’t had enough (and  are still standing from that drinking game), gear up for the 30th anniversary of Return of the Jedi on May 25th.

May the Fourth be with you! Oh, and shake the haters off…

National High Five Day

So not only is it National Animal Cracker Day (serious noms), BUT today is also National High Five Day.

national high five day 2013 boston marathon

Usually National High Five Day, or NH5D for short, raises money to donate to cancer research. However, in light of the tragic events this week in Boston, all money raised will go to support the victims of the Boston Marathon.

This year, NH5D has a goal of raising $5,555 for the victims of the bombings in Boston and they’re almost halfway there! Donations will go to provide affordable healthcare services to the victims by partnering with groups such as the Kennedy Brothers Physical Therapy and Thriveworks Counseling. On average each $5 donated pays for 5 minutes of care from those providers. So donate today and spread the word.

Let’s high five for Boston!
